It would be hard
to be at the incredible mountain
views from the inner sanctum high
on the Kangchenjunga Glacier.
Within this spectacular mountain
amphitheater you are enclosed
by ridge upon snow -capped ridge
that lead to the crowning summit
of Kangchenjunga - the third highest
peak in the world. To reach these
rarefied heights we take an exceptional
trek through the remote region
of eastern Nepal.
From Kathmandu
we fly to Taplejung before heading
up the tamer Valley with its terraced
rice Paddies and thriving villages.
We enter forests of rhododendron,
conifer and oak, and Pass small
Tibetan settlements to high alpine
Pastures where yaks graze to the
margins of the moraine.
Reaching the
Kangchenjunga base Camp at Pang
Pema we gaze in awe at the huge
north face of Kangchenjunga. Ascending
higher we cross the Kangchenjunga
Glacier and enter an inner sanctum
Where snow-capped ridges lead
to Jongsang Peak, Pyranid Peak,
Tent peak and the soaring summits
of Kangchenjunga.
From Pang
Pema we descend the terminal moraine
before following the yak harriers
trail over the Mirgin La (4725
meters) - the divide between the
northern and southern approaches
to kangchenjunga. Completing this
traverse we gain spectacular views
of Jannu and the huge south face
of Kangchenjunga before returning
through villages and along forested-trails
to Taplejung.
