of Muchu.

over a ridge to the Tumkot Khola and then walk along the rocky
stream bed for a short distance before beginning a steep climb
through a rock-filled gully. We pass through Palbang and its

and beyond here the route climbs up the valley towards a pass,
the Nara Lagna. We camp below the pass in a meadow known as
Sipsip.

the magic of this holy site. We will take it easy but also
meet with local pilgrims and visit the beautiful Chiu Monastery.
Mt. Kailash looms in the distance.
Day 10 DRIVE TO TARBOCHE
After only a 35 km drive we will reach
Tarboche. Tarboche marks the start of our religious 53 km
trek around the mountain. Finally we have arrived!
Day
11 TREK TO DIRA-PUK
Lush green meadows and babbling mountain streams compliment
our walk through the Lha Chu Valley. We then trek through
a narrow river canyon. Enticing waterfalls and steep cliffs
surround us. The north face of Kailash finally comes into
view as we reach Dira-puk, a 13th century monastery.
Day 12 TREK TO ZUTUL-PUK
After trekking through the Drolma
Chu Valley we climb the prayer flag laden Drolma La pass.
It is a relief to cruise downhill towards Zutul-puk, with
a view of an alluring mountain lake in the distance. Thukpe
Dzingbu Lake is known as the Lake of Compassion. We can also
explore several ancient meditation caves!
Day 13 TREK TO DARCHEN
This is our final day of the kora
and a delightful day at that. Several stream and splendid
gorges surround us. Ravishing views of Mt. Kailash are abundant
on our walk today. The night will be spent in Darchen, a desert-like
area.
Day 14 DRIVE TO PARYANG
We must leave early today for our
drive back to Paryang. However, it is not a wasted day as
some of the best scenery on our trip is seen in this section.

Day 15 DRIVE TO SAGA
Today is another driving day as we
head towards Saga. Take in the sights of the small dusty towns
along the way!
Day 16 DRIVE TO SHIGATSE
Unfortunately today is the most extensive
drive on our journey. However, you can feast your eyes on
the wondrous valleys, fields, and lakes along the way. In
the afternoon we reach the Friendship Highway and continue
on. Our final destination for the night is the second largest
city in Tibet, Shigatse.
Today is the longest drive of our journey, 452km to Shigatse.
Leaving Saga, we pass the turn-off for the northern route
and skirt around a lake, passing through a series of valleys.
Approaching Kaga, we'll come across the first trees and agricultural
fields that we've seen for many days and the town itself is
situated next to a picturesque lake. We continue on to Lhatse
where we join the paved Friendship Highway and follow it for
the final 150km to Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet
Day 17 DRIVE TO GYANTSE [3950m]
Today is an even more enjoyable day
as we visit the ancient Tashilhunpo Monastery. Only a short
drive brings us to the town of Gyantse. We will be given the
opportunity of experiencing more wondrous Tibetan culture
as we see the Gyantse Dzong and Kumbum. Expansive views of
the valley can be seen from the ancient Dzong fort. The Kumbum
is much more than a stupa, as it is surrounded by numerous
Tibetan murals and small chapel houses. Even if you are no
art connoisseur you will be amazed by these ancient murals
and architecture.
Day 18 DRIVE TO LHASA
Today is possibly the most spectacular
drive of our journey. We travel over the Karo La pass, where
towering glaciers rise nearly straight up from the road. Along
the way we also pass through the small town of Nagartse. Past
Nagartse lies an awe-inspiring turquoise lake, Yamdrok-tso.
After passing one more high pass we reach our end destination
of Lhasa. Lhasa is an amazing city widely regarded as the
heart of Tibet.
Day 19 IN LHASA
Haven't you always dreamed of visiting
the ancient Tibetan monasteries? Our knowledgeable English
speaking guide will show you everything there is to see in
some of these renowned sights. First off we will explore the
beautifully preserved Sera Monastery. Many of the pictures
you see of Tibet are of these buildings with their white washed
walls and golden roofs. To this day several hundred monks
live and study in this architecture. The afternoon will be
spent exploring the Jokhang temple and Norbulingka. The Norbunglinka
is another astounding piece of architecture and was once the
summer palace of the Dalai Lama. Jokhang Temple will provide
you one of your first sights of devout Tibetans, as hundreds
visit this sacred shrine each day. The central market of Lhasa,
the Barkor, surrounds the Jokhang Temple. In these cobbled
streets you can experience more Tibetan culture and even purchase
some amazing crafts.
Day 20 IN LHASA
To explore some of the ancient quarters
of the Dalai Lama we will visit Potala Palace in the morning.
Be prepared for astonishment as this grand palace has been
around since before the 17th century. To add even more history
and culture we will also visit Drepung Monastery. Once home
to over 10,000 monks, the Drepung Monastery is still a beautiful
sight to see. Miraculously it was one of the few sights to
escape the Cultural revolution without widespread damage.
Day 21 IN LHASA
Today is a day for you to enjoy yourself
and further explore the ancient city of Lhasa. It is completely
up to you on how you spend your day. Many like to explore
the city further, immerse themselves in Buddhist culture,
or just relax in one of the city's excellent restaraunts.
The locals are friendly and the sights are amazing.
Day 22 FLY TO KATHMANDU

hour while crossing the Himalayan range. As you may expect
the striking mountain views surround you the entire time.
An amazing way to end a life-changing journey! Come join us
in this land of religion and history!
