DAY 03 :
Today is short day. We climb up what is virtually a staircase to the Gurung village of Ghandgrung. This village is beautifully set against the peaks of Annapurna South and Huichuli (6441m). We have the rest of the day to relax and explore.

DAY 04 :
We climb up through small terraced fields, past farm-houses and in to the dense forest. This is a particularly good day for the bird watchers and those interested in flowers. In the winter, the danphe is in bloom and its scent hangs in the trees and in the spring, the rhododendrons and orchids bloom. Views of the Annapurna are excellent. At the end of a days climbing, we camp in a small clearing in the forest next to a stream.

DAY 05 :
In the morning we have a steep and somewhat exciting climb to Deorali Pass (3078m) and the views on reaching the top are among the best throughout Nepal. To the west, we see the Dhaulagiri (8167m). Above us towers the pyramid peak of Annapurna South, while below is the deepest river gorge in the world-the Kali Gandaki, over 3 miles deep in some places. From the pass, we descend to Ghorepani.

DAY 06 :

This is the day when we all decide that we prefer the uphill to downhill. We descend steadily to Tirkhedunga (1524m) where we lunch. We have now joined the main trail from Tibet and we are constantly meeting muletrains laden with goods. The Traders are Tibetans,, Khampas, Mustang people and the tea houses along the route are mostly run by Thakalis. Quite often, we meet Hindu Sadhus (Priests) and Pilgrims. We reach Modi River once again and camp on its bank.

DAY 07 :
Today, we take our last climb up to Chandrakot (1562m) for about an hour and stop for a drink at the tea house. We then contour round the British Agricultural farm, an experimental center growing fruit trees and vegetables, then drop steadily along the Naudanda ridge to Naudanda itself and camp in full view of the whole Annapurna range.

DAY 08 :
We then continue along the ridge, loosing sight of the mountains emporarily to Kaski, one of the most important villages in the history of Nepal. It was here several centuries ago the unification of Nepal began and the present King's ancestors can be traced back to. We descend the ridge, walk around the lake to the township of Pokhara and spend the rest of the day exploring the bazaars or relaxing. We camp by lake side.

DAY 09 :
Drive or fly back to Kathmandu.

DAY 02:
It is about 2 hours' gradual climb to Muktinath, an important pilgrimage spot for both the Hindus and Buddhist - with a Buddhist Gompa and pagoda style temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. DAY 03:
The trail descends very quickly to the valley floor over 5,000 ft below and we camp at Jomosom.

DAY 02 :
The first few days of the trek are hot, thirsty and dusty. Today is no exception as we follow the river and a new dirt road under construction. We pass the village of Tarkenghat and Bhote Odar before descending to the Thakali Bazaar of Philesangu ( 2100 ft) and camp.

DAY 03 :
Most of the trail today is fairly flat, until after the village of Besi Sahar, when the trail narrows and the valley becomes a deep river gorge. We cross a long suspension bridge and enter the largest trading village of Khuldi (2592 ft ) inhabited by the Gurungs.

DAY 04 :

If not, we continue on the west bank climbing high over a ridge, to rejoin the east bank trail over a suspension bridge at Sange. We then climb high again, through rhododendron and pine forest. The valley is now very deep and steep gorge. We camp at Chame (4495ft).

DAY 06 :
We climb steadily all day long Tal, a small village at the foot of a large waterfall. We are now entering the Manang district. After leaving Tal, we cross a large bridge to the village of Dharapani (6103 ft ) where our trekking permits are checked, and we enjoy a cup of tea. We then climb through forest to Bagarchap (7120 ft ) the first village on the trek with typical Tibetan architecture.

The entire Annapurna range in the south, the Mukut and Mustang Himal to the west, and the incredibly deep Kali Gandaki valley and the peaks of Throungtse(21,268 ft) and Chulu to the north.
