Day Kathmandu Valley Bicycle Tour
This is
an extension trip that can be added to any other tour that the client
has just completed or plans on taking after.
Day
01: Kathmandu
After lunch, an introduction to your biking team and to your bike. You
are advised to check your machine thoroughly. In the evening a briefing
will be held at the hotel.
Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day
02: Kathmandu-Kakani
We bike the Northwest corner of the valley twisting and snaking our
way through the rice paddies exploring the agricultural life of the
valley then heading for our starting point of our climb to Kakani (2011m).
We leave valley starting our 640m climb to Kakani on smooth paved road
traversing the holy Nagarjun mountain named after the famous Tibetan
Buddhist saint. The road gently contours magnificently terraced mountain
sides dotted with small villages perched seemingly on the edge. Cresting
the Kakani saddle you get beautiful Himal views and a taste of what
awaits you at the top of the remaining 20 minute climb.

Day
03: Kakani-Nagarkhot
Walking up to a stunning Himalayan view breakfast we ride off-road on
the Himalayan Mountain Bike Championship race course climbing and descend
(640m) to the valley floor. Reaching Budhanikantha we will visit the
(5m) stone image of "Reclining Vishnu" a testament to the
skill of the 13th century artisans. Heading east we snake off-road through
rice paddies towards Gomcha, home of the revered Vajrakali temple sitting
over the Dhobi Khola river. We contour more ridges with moderate elevation
gain before descending into the maize of rice paddies and more off road
single track to the medieval town of Bhaktapur. After a short tour of
this ancient town we gently climb to Nagarkhot (2174m) for more spectacular
Himalayan views. Overnight at camp.
Day
04: Nagarkot-Dhulikhel
After Himalayan sunrise, breakfast at our lodge and ample time to take
photos we ride off-road down 803m through villages that display colorful
ethnic diversity that makes up the Kathmandu valley. Each group farms
and dresses differently and speaks different languages, all within 20
km of each other. We pedal through Sankhu on our way to the biggest
Stupa in the valley, Boudhnath and what is commonly called "Little
Tibet". We take lunch at the Stupa View Restrurant and visit the
many shops and monasteries around potters village of Thimi then climb
out of the valley to Dhulikhel (1500m) and our nights lodging at the
lovely traditionally styled Sun and Snow Hotel with Himalayan views.

Day
05: Dhulikhel-Namo Buddha- Dhulikhel
After another breakfast with the Himalayan backdrop, we ride off-road
to the famous Buddhist site of Namo Buddha where we take a picnic lunch.
We return to Dhulikhel riding dirt roads through villages and farm-lands
getting a first hand view of rural Nepal.

Day
06: Dhulikhel-Kathmandu
We head back to the Kathmandu Valley by paved road to Banepa where we
visit the famous temple of Chandreswari known for its colourful painted
mural of the said goddess. We travel on the old dirt road back to Bhaktapur
where we have an option to go directly back to Kathmandu or to head
south for great off-road riding through the fields of the valley floor.
We return tonight to hotel.

07: Kathmandu
Full free day for private activities.
