Bordering
the Royal Chitwan National Park, Hotel Hermitage has been described
as having "attractive grounds and excellent riverside location,"
by the Hand Book Nepal. It is situated in the midst of luscious
green trees, on the bank of the Rapti river, from where the breathtaking
Himalayan peaks of Annapurna II, Himalchuli and Lamjung Himal are
visible.
Numerous varieties
of wildlife including approximately 500 one-horned Rhinoceros (found
only in Nepal & India in the world), about 100 Royal Bengal
tigers, Leopards, Bears, the dense riverrine and sal jungle, and
the Tharu villages around it, are all there to give maximum enjoyment
to the guests.
Extreme care has been taken to maintain a comfortable and hospitable
atmosphere. A beautifully set garden where you can enjoy the cool
air and admire the gorgeous sunset of Chitwan is one of the main
attractions of the hotel. Two double storied Boat houses surrounded
by water, a number of cozy huts and a 12 roomed guest house make
a total of 30 rooms of the hotel. As the name of the hotel suggests,
the tranquil and independent life of hermits can be enjoyed in each
of the rooms and practically every where inside the hotel compound.
All the rooms are equipped with comfortable beds, fans for the warmer
seasons, and the attached toilets and bathrooms have round-the-clock
hot and cold water. The kitchen serves Nepali as well as Western
cuisine, and it serves everything with a smile.
All in all it is the ideal Safari resort from where one of Asia's
best wildlife can be experienced.
A Host of Hotel-Sponsored Programmes:
a) Elephant Safari
With full security guaranteed, guests are taken in the morning and
evening hours on elephant backs through the park for watching animals
in their natural habitat. One horned Rhinoceros, Bears, different
species of Deer, Tigers and Leopards are just a few of them. Of
course the guests have to be lucky to catch a casual glimpse of
the latter two animals. The trip takes about one hour and a half.
b) Special Bird Watching
This program gives the guests the opportunity of viewing most of
the four hundred fifty varieties of world famous birds. The chirping
of all these birds especially in the early morning hours is a rare
musical treat.
c) Elephant Breeding Center Visit
It is believed that the Elephant Breeding Center outside the park
here is one of the only two in the world, another being in Sri-Lanka.
Guests here can occasionally see the love-making of the Elephants.
The sight of the baby Elephant in the company of its parents, is
indeed a great pleasure.
d) Jungle Drive
This motor drive meant for those not relishing the foot walk takes
the guests from the park at Sauraha to the Park's headquarters at
Kasara. The use of a motor transport does not mar the fun in anyway.
e) Canoe-Riding
This is carried out in the Rapti river flowing through the park.
It provides the guests with alternative opportunities of viewing
the innumerable varieties of forest animals, birds, marsh muggers
and gharial crocodiles.
f) Jungle Treks
Thoroughly trained and experienced tourist guides take the guests
for a few hours walk through the jungle filled with many species
of the wildlife. Guests not willing to return to their camps on
foot are provided with vehicular rides as well.
g) Cultural Tour
This tour takes the guests through Tharu community village around
the park. The guests are also entertained through different Tharu
related cultural programs, the stick dance being quite popular among
them.
